Blog Update

Hey all,

Well, with Web II wrapping up, I believe it will soon be time for a new version of the DMD site to go live. So...who won?

As a past creator of the old site and this blog, I have the administrative ability to change the code here to reflect a new design. I'm not sure if anyone else has this permission. If you would like it, please leave a comment, and I'll open access; otherwise, I can update this blog's design as soon as the new site becomes live.

That is, if this blog is really being used.

Happy Holidays,
Thomas Davis

Finals

Today is the last day of finals! I hope you all made it through without too many battle wounds. The extreme winds caused a loss of power at the Works yesterday so I am hoping that all you Web 2 students were able to finish your sites. If not, hurry up! You only have till noon! Over the break I hope you all are able to relax, recharge your creative batteries and come back to Winter Quarter completely inspired!

The dmdso does have a couple things going on over break that we could use your help with though.

The Titanic Rock Battle needs more committee members. We have tshirts, posters and a few smaller things that still need to be designed. Those tshirts also need to be printed so if you would like to learn how to screen print this is your chance! If you would like to contribute your awesomeness to this event please contact Sam at obivionfan101@gmail.com

We also have a Juried Gallery Show that will take place on Jan 30 2010. We need art submitted, posters and flyers designed and some helping hands to get the gallery looking lovely. Once I talk to Michael and Kathleen, I will post more information on what kind of art can be submitted.

Finally, the dmdso is helping The Works museum out with designing dream bedrooms for kids onFriday Jan 22 2010. We need pieces of furniture designed in illustrator. If you arent comfy with illustrator or just dont have time but still want to assist in the furniture development email me images of kickass bedroom furniture. We all have drastically different styles so if we can give these kids a wide variety it would be great.

1st years – We hope you enjoyed this quarter and will continue on in the DMD Program

2nd years – We hope the switch to a faster paced, more project packed quarter didnt cause too many headaches.

Lifers – Glad you enjoy the DMD program so much you are taking your time ;) (I plan on being a lifer myself)

Grads – We wish you the best of luck out there in the real world, always remember…… If you survived Bill yelling at you about something you can survive anything!!!

End of the year party...

Hopefully some people follow this blog. We do not update it nearly enough for it to be memorable to everyone; however, to you hard core bloggers...

There is an end of the year party at Karen Keller's house on Thursday, June 11 at 6:30. Hosts include myself (Thomas Davis), Karen Keller, and Monica Garber.

Anyone who would like to attend please bring a side dish or dessert. All faculty are invited as well. The merrier the more! We will have food, a bon fire, and games...if you bring some.

For privacy reasons, an address is not included here. However, check the conference room at school or speak to Karen, Thomas, or Monica. They will give you the dets.

Cheers!

Spring Design Trip

Members of the Digital Media Design Students Organization are on their way to Washington D.C. for a long weekend investigating art & design in the nation's capitol. Led by faculty advisor Michael Coronado (who left Newark at midnight to reach D.C. by mid-day Friday) the students will be visiting the Smithosonian and design galleries through Sunday.

As they send photos, we'll post 'em. And I'm sure we'll add more to the student activities section of the DMD web site. Stay tuned. Kathleen? Teaching Michael's class in Coshocton. Me? In the labs getting ready for a tour and a group demo. Ah, but next year: New York!

DMD Extended Campus News

Blizzard today, so I finally have time to post!

Early January was the first anniversary of the opening of Montgomery Hall in Coshocton and Kathleen Kinney and I, along with DMD student Lainie Brillhart and DMD graduate Barb Lewis, were on hand for the Friday evening event.

We talked about the growth of our program to a couple of groups of hardy folk who ventured out in their own blizzard that night.

The lab has graduated to fifteen new iMacs with the latest digital software. A large-format Epson photo printer is in the printing room off the main lab, and a new color laser is on its way this week. Just before the event we hung photographs and artwork created by Coshocton students in the Digital Media program.

With the Web option in its first year we are teaching two or three courses in the lab each quarter.

In Knox County, with the acquisition of Ariel Hall, Digital Media now has a new lab on the first floor.

We moved in just a couple of days before Winter Quarter, so the space is still a work in progress, but DMD faculty member Michael Coronado has some exciting plans for the space. It, too, has 15 shiny new aluminum iMacs loaded with all of our Digital Media software. As in Coshocton, a printing room in the back already has its high-resolution Epson 3800 photo printer and an HP color laser.

A special thanks to Joel Daniels, V.P. for Extended Campuses, for finding such a prime bit of real-estate in the new campus. We promise to make it really "designy" Joel!

Now! On to Pataskala!!
